I'm doing it!!

Although some people were skeptical about me actually going, I am biking across the country this summer with the non-profit organization called Bike and Build. I decided about 2 months ago that this seemed like the opportunity of a lifetime and I could not pass it up. So after much debate with my family and friends, I applied and was accepted to the Nags Head to San Diego route of B&B 2009. I am so excited about this amazing chance to see the country from a bicycle while helping others by raising awareness of affordable housing and building homes for deserving families. I knew that I wanted to travel the summer after graduation, but I never imagined it would consist of riding a bike every day and doing construction for the benefit of others. This seemed like the perfect trip for me, because I have always loved endurance sports, traveling, and have always been an advocate for groups like Habitat for Humanity and ReCreation Experiences. I can't wait to get my trip started, and I'm excited to experience it with a group of individuals like me that are willing to dedicate their summers to such an amazing cause.

In order for this amazing experience to happen, I have to raise support to go. Each individual is responsible for raising $4000 before departing in May. This money will pay for my bike, my food along the way, gas for our support van, and most of all, will pay for the affordable housing that we will be helping to construct along the way. Also, a portion of it will go directly to Orange County Habitat for Humanity, which happens to be where I'm from. It's nice to know that a portion of the proceeds will aid our local housing needs.

So this is where you, the reader, come in. I need to fundraise. My first goal is $1000, because after raising that much, B&B will know that I'm truly dedicated to the cause, and they will order my bike for me! Once I get my bike, I can start training... and I definitely need to start soon, because an average of 70 miles a day seems impossible right now. If you're reading this and feel willing to donate, go to Bike and Build's Donation link and scroll down to my name. It's easy and secure, and you can pay with a credit card with the amount of your choice. In addition to this, I need your prayers. This is a huge commitment I am making, and it is going to take a lot of faith and dedication to complete my journey. Keep me in your prayers as I raise support, and especially while I am on my trip, that I stay safe and that I am doing this for the right reasons. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, or visit the B&B website at bikeandbuild.org Thanks!
